I just watched the Loggione dedicated to the 40-year career of Leo Nucci.
I'm sorry, but I'm tired of once great singers not retiring to a well-deserved rest. Last march, I was on against Chris Merritt (and I still am), this time, it's Leo Nucci's time.
His vibrato does emphasize his shortness of breath, and that's not how I want to remember this great Italian baritone.
He has, very wisely, announced he won't sing Il Barbiere di Siviglia anymore, and will only concentrate on Verdi roles and Puccini's Gianni Schicchi (Scala march-april 2008).
I wish he had gone the extra mile and announce his complete retirement.
