Withdrawals for MET's Romeo & Juliette

Other cast changes for the upcoming production of Gounod's Roméo et Juliette at the MET, featuring Anna Netrebko and Placido Domingo conducting;
  • Nathan Gunn will not sing Mercutio in the September and October performances; French baritone Stéphane Degout will fill in. Better singing, better diction, I think New Yorkers have a win-win situation here.
  • Rolando Villazón, who already cancelled last month all appearances through October, has withdrawn from his scheduled engagements at least through the end of 2007. That means no appearances as Roméo at all at the MET.
  • That also means no Nemorino in November at Covent Garden in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore. So, what's wrong with you, Rolando?
For the lattest about Rolando Villazón, see here.
